
Carrie Chavers
Carrie Chavers is a working artist, and owner of The Chickasha Art Center since 2014. In 2021, she retired after 32 years from being a public school Art Teacher. She also taught part-time in the Theatre Department at USAO from 2010-2015 as a set designer for 10 productions and instructor. She finished the last 22 years at Chickasha High School as an Art Instructor. She is a member of the Chickasha artist community giving painting workshops, kids classes, murals, window painting, and portraits. She graduated in 1979 from Eisenhower High School in Lawton, Oklahoma and finished her BA in Art Education in 1984 at USAO in Chickasha. Carrie completed her graduate work at Oklahoma City University in 1993 with a degree in Gifted and Talented with Art Emphasis.
She describes herself as a “Blue Collar Artist” when painting windows or murals for various organizations and businesses in Chickasha. Carrie started small with her Paint on Canvas parties and eventually grew the business , to having an actual brick and mortar location in Downtown Chickasha. The Chickasha Art Center offers birthday parties, fundraisers, church and civic group parties. Her After School Kid Classes and Private Adult Lessons are nurturing artists to find their voice through drawing and painting. She also offers ceramics and throwing on the wheel classes. Having studied at the Chicago Art Institute, Kansas City Art Institute, and being a student of Bert Seabourn, her style has evolved with a vibrant palette. Carrie is married to Randy Chavers and has a son, Sean Brown who is also an artist living in the Norman, Oklahoma area. Lately, Carrie has been focusing on large, colorful portrait commissions and murals.
